I've finally made a blog! I have been thinking about making one for awhile now, but never got around to actually doing it. I'll be documenting my life and "adventures" in here, as well as some other fun things. If you're reading this, you more than likely already know me, but I think that since this is my first post, I'll write a little bit about myself.
My name is Colleen and I've lived in Edison, New Jersey my entire life. However, I wasn't born here. I was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana and was adopted at one day old. Being adopted never really bothered me, even though I would have a million people asking me questions about it while I was growing up. My mom is my mom, even if she wasn't the one to give birth to me and I have always thought of it that way. I would say that I had a pretty good childhood that included lots of vacations and fun things. I attended a Catholic school from Kindergarten - 7th grade, but then hit a rough patch and decided I didn't want to go to a Catholic school any more. I guess when you're in a class with 20-something kids that are the same people every year, it gets boring. I wanted to try out the public middle school, and so I did. Somehow I got it into my head that I really wanted to go to Union Catholic for high school (I think it was probably because they required you to have a laptop and I really wanted a laptop, hah!). That.. didn't last. I tried going to public high school and that didn't work for me either. I would feel sick before school every morning and fake illness' because I didn't want to go. I think by this point I was starting to realise that I just flat out hated school and felt extremely awkward in large social situations. The answer to my problem was home schooling, which I did throughout high school and it was wonderful.
Fast forward to now. I have an amazing boyfriend, David, who I've been with now for the last 5+ years. He lives here in New Jersey with my mom, my brother, and I. I actually don't remember how long he has been living here, but before that we had a long distance relationship. He lived in Virginia and I had met him online through a mutual friend. We ended up meeting each other in person when I went on a vacation to Tennessee and had stopped in Virginia over night. ~Love at first sight~, lol. I'm 100% positive that he's the person I will be with forever.
My dad passed away on September 15, 2008 which was possibly the worst day of my life. He died in his sleep of a heart attack at only 59 years old. Sometimes it still doesn't feel real. He was an alcoholic and that probably had something to do with it as well. Alcoholism can be a scary thing and as much as I would sometimes like to say that I will never drink, I know that's not true. I don't think there's anything wrong with a beer here and there, but when you're drinking nearly a bottle of vodka a day, there's a problem.
So other than that, life is alright. It would definitely be better if David and I had jobs and were able to support ourselves. There are literally no jobs here in Jersey, so we are now hoping that David's dad will be able to get him a job with him down in Waynesboro, Virginia. We have been waiting a few weeks now and are currently waiting to hear from someone from the company to schedule an interview/orientation with David. I'm growing impatient and I just want to move already. At first I was opposed to the idea of moving down there because I hate having to be so far away from my mom and the things that are comfortable to me, but we have to get started somewhere. And if this job doesn't come through for some reason, I don't know what we're going to do. :/
That was a lot longer than I anticipated it to be and sorry if it's tl;dr. I promise all my entries are definitely not going to be this long.
I am going to plan a small give-away when I reach 30 followers!
